change the diagphram on between the gas tank and carburetor and it will run fine. it’s a gasket between the gas tank and carburetor, cost is about five dollars or so .
you flywheel key is sheared a little bit and its throwing the ignition timing off to the magneto form the magnets on the fly wheel.
The older models are pretty much indestructible as long as you take care of them, its sad that briggs and stratton cheaped out with the newer ones, these newer models are nowhere as reliable as the old ones.

OMG i have that same lawn mower lol it does the same thing but only when it’s cold out
it may have a broken flywheel key.
Gotta love a Briggs, those things run like champs for just about ever, the only problems I have seen with any was user error.
carb rebuild i got one that does that now .
check yer gas and oil

turn the idle mixture screw in about a quarter turn
i have an old lawn mower b and s and it do the same thing. ajust the carb!!
Sounds like it needs a carburetor adjustment.
do you have an aircleaner on it if not do you have the air cover screw in it if not thats the proboblem its not creating the right suction in the carburetor with the screw out

either you need to clean your carb or your spark plug is shit.
As I said, it should be set at the midpoint, or slightly beyond midpoint.

Do you colect stationary engines aswell?
i think maybe you should clean the carb, put new air filter, and the right kind of oil for that mower; since its a older model. maybe you should change the gas and put new in
new air filter
its running like that cuzz you need to clean the carb first check the valves and see if the itake valve is burnt or the exhaust valve cuzz that will throw the timing off a little or realy bad, other then that your fuel mixture is to rich
