I’ve got Percy. He came with thomas when I was little. He still works but the motor does not responed properly and lets off a little bright sparks.
I’m thinking about getting a new one. As well as gett a six wheeled Thomas model.

I think Percy’s speed is very unrealistic, because he can go faster than Mallard XD But he is still pretty accurate, the only real bug in his outlook is his short wheelbase, if his wheelbase is a bit longer It would be more realistic. I also think the trucks are absurdly long, like you said. I prefer using 7-plank private owners on my layout.

I agree these troublesome trucks are way too BIG i think they should be based on a five or six plank wagons (or whatever the Season 1 troublesome trucks are) they are just too big as i mentioned before!
Excellent Review mate! XD

Those “ramp” things, that’s actually the chassis used to hold the wheels and the braking system.

The ERTL trucks had the same faces. I don’t know why the open trucks would have an XD face because usually it is the vans who have that.

I have never managed to see why Hornby made those things when they already have a perfectly good open wagon in the Thomas range. The only logical explanation would be insanity, unless they made it for the clockwork range they had a few years ago, which also produced the over scale Toby, Bill and Ben.
Good review btw

The trucks are based on a chassis first designed by triang for a BR brake van. This van has been replaced (although it may still be used in the Thomas range) but the chassis is still used for the 4 wheel coach (the one used for Annie and Clarabel), which makes the the trucks far longer than other trucks and explains the footboards, which are not usually found on open wagons.
