noisy 18HP briggs&stratton horisontally opposed engine
This is an example of a horisontaly opposed briggs&startion engine fitted to a rotoryhoe after the origional wisconsin engine died. It is currently using a small english ford motorcar carburator in place of the original carburator (most likely fom a 48-52ford 8-10 prefect). i have been advised that the noise is actually something called a "hydrostatic pump" i have no real idea what that is but i could try looking it up i guess. Yes it is a uncaredfor pile of junk that forever needs ...

the hydro fluid might be a bit low but some noise is normal ive herd some brand new that are louder or just as loud
check out my videos
thanks
ok the pump is located inside the tiller housing… meaning it located inside the housing between the 2 tyres. if he can access the pump from under the tiller frame… he might want to check the oil level to see if its low on pump oil
i told the owner & he has no idea what a hydrostatic pump is. i doubt he will fix it simply because he has no idea what to look for (strangely he thinks that noise is normal). Do you have any suggestions or places to look that might help?
nope, that is the hydrostatic pump noise…. it need some serious servicing, engine sounds good, the pump is what is whining
it doesn’t sound like an engine noise. not healthy though thats for sure
The fuel pumps are rubbish though, it is better to replace them with one of a differnt kind
Wow….a horizontal crank on a B&S opposed twin! I haven’t seen one before this video and I love the vertical shaft motors…I’d love to get my hands on one of those!!!
I like the kill switch
i thought it was something rubbing on the inside of the flywheel or transmission
i think thats the hydraulic pump on the tiller
does it not worry you that the engine makes a loud speaky noise? i wonder what it is?
nice engine
